Hi I just built a new computer and have P4 3.46 Ghz EE. My problem is that on idle it runs at 46 C. When I attempt to play games it raises to 69-71 C. For cooling I use the Sonic Tower, and 120 mm Vantec for the back of the case. The case also has a 80 mm fan on the side and another 80 mm fan on the front. I would like to hear any suggestions to bring the temp. down when the cpu is on full load. Thanks

the best HSF available is the XP-120. Also, depending on your motherboard, you may be running the vcore higher than required, which leads to more heat.

Yeah sometimes the motherboard comes overvolted, gay but they do that. Find the stock voltage of your CPU (I don't know anything about Intel), go to bios and change it manually.

Your motherboard might be misreading your temps, some temp sensors can be very far off. Run prime95 overnight and see if the computer is stable. If it is, then your temps are fine, because if they are as high as the temp sensor says you would get some errors in prime95.
