CPU temp suddenly jumped 10 degrees.

I had a duron 600@900 1.6v on a KT7-R and FOP32, but for some reason, about a week ago, my computer started getting hotter, it used to run at around 40c full load, then a few nights ago it reached 50c, so I put it back down to 600MHz. It's now running at 40c with the side of the case open.

I checked the themal paste, still there, not crusty or anything, but I reaplied it anyway, that did nothing.

I'm at a total loss as to why my computer is running so hot for no reason. Anyone else know what could be causing this?

Could it be possible that the heat turned on and that your computer is next to a heat duct? The other thing that I can think of is maye you installed a BIOS update that compensates for temperature inaccuracies different.

Try lapping the heat sink and are you using Arctic Silver thermal paste?

If not, then switch to arctic silver an you should drop about 5 degrees

your last resort with your current HSF, is to change out the fan to the Delta 38.. that's the only difference between the FOP32 and FOP38 anyway...

the delta is very loud, but should give ya another couple of degrees..hopefully enough to let ya get back up to 900..

Keep in mind, with the nature of Socket A temp measurements, a 5C core temp drop is not always shown as a 5C drop on the thermistor reading, rather something like a 1-2C drop.

Nope, no BIOS change (there isn't anything to cange it to 🙁), and I only have central heating in my house (and it's pretty far from where my computer is), plus the case temp is the same as before.

chriscraft, thanks for the suggestions, but that doesn't explain why the temperature jumped for no reason.
