Cpu temp software for P4

Hey all,
Friend of mine has an old pentium 4 3.2ghz alienware laptop that we think is overheating. I was going to check via coretemp, but it doesn't support anything older than core 2 Duos. Is there any temperature monitoring software that might be a bit older that I should give a try?

Give HWMonitor a try. That software reports sensors about 80% of the time for me. Its very handle with PentiumM lappies that I sell. Although the sensor may not be marked cpu, by seeing how high/low the reported temp is will tell you. For example just see what the lowest temp is, then do some system load to see how high the temps go. Then see which sensors has the biggest low/high gap and that is usually your cpu. I've also seen more than one cpu based sensor reported that may have slightly different readings.

But either way, give HWMonitor a try if the others don't work. You can get it at the same site as CPUz.

You could also give the Open Hardware Monitor a try. But Pentium 4 do not have any core sensors like Core 2, i3, i5, i7 and newer AMD processors. So there it is not a software limitation, but problem of the hardware. But usually the older CPUs still have a thermal diode, which can measure the overall temperature of the CPU. This can be read (usually) via the super i/o chip of the mainboard (with one of the programs suggested in this thread).
