CPU temp question

i got a p3 550 at 733, stock voltage, i have a gorb on it with some arctic silver. on idle the temp is usually around 30-33C but at full load the thing gets ridiculous, i've seen it go up to almost 80, when I'm playing bleem it stays in the 50-60 range. Is this normal? I'm getting annoyed that its getting so high. can someone help me out?

sounds very strange and highly doubtful. What motherboard are you using as some are having problems giving proper readings especialy when overclocked?

I would update the bios, I remember hearing about improper temps displayed on earlier versions of that board.
Its strange that your cpu would jump 20-30c from idle. Mine rarely goes more than 10c, with a golden orb.

I also have a regular fan blowing into the side of the computer since I have it open, that should help more than it hurts right?

the early versions of your board did have problems with temperature display. The latest bios should cure your ills. I suspected you had that board.

A deskfan blowing into an open case will help, but I wouldn't call it effeciant cooling.
As tons of air will just be blowing into the case, instead of having cool air going in and hot air going out.

I would invest in a 80mm or larger fan for the front of your case, and a blowhole for the back to start off.

Forget those case fans....go to Wal-Mart and pick up a 10" house fan. Take the side cover off your case and turn that baby on. TRUST me, noise isn't a prob. The 37 Delta on my Kanie is louder than that thing. Forget the tons of air going in thing, that's enough winflow to push cold in and remove hot all in one cycle. As for the temp readings, update the bios, I had the same probs.....
