CPU Temp question

Just finished my first build - E8400, ASUS P5Q Pro MB, Arctic Freezer 7 cooler, Gigabyte 3870 GPU, Antec Sonata III. Vista SP1 64bit.

When I enter the BIOS, it shows the CPU temp at 46C. After I boot into Vista, the ASUS probe shows the CPU temp at 40C, and MB at 34C at idle. Is this normal?

My room temp is about 27C. The GPU has a Zalman cooler on it, but it is the recirculating type - i.e. does not exhaust the hot air through a slot.

Also, why the difference between the BIOS and ASUS Probe? Which one should I believe?

The reason I am concerned - I had trouble installing the AC7. When I pushed one pin in, the opposite pin would pop out. Had to lift it out and reseat it a couple of times. It is seated firmly now - does not move or lift up. I used the pre-applied thermal paste.

you need to load the cpu in order to see if your sink is working efficiently.

Consult the overclocking guides in cpu and overclocking to search for programs that load your cpu.
