CPU Temp Question

I have a chaintech vnf3-250, a AMD 64 3000, with 2 sticks of 512mb ddr 400 ram, and a 6800gt.

Recently Battlefield 2 has been running pretty laggy so I wanted to find out what was wrong since my specs are pretty good.

After some testing I noticed I had 100% cpu usage when running bf2 and digidoc the temp indicator program for the cpu registered a 64 degrees celcius. Now without running BF2 I noticed that just browsing webpages and stuff I get about 54 degress celcius according to program. Now I am not sure what is an acceptable temp for this computer also the temp for the system is 28 degrees celcius I have a stock heat fan and 4 other cpu fans.

The only thing I can think of is that I recently had to swap out the motherboard for the computer because some of its usb ports were faulty I swapped for the exact same board though. I am thinking maybe I didn't settle the heatsink on properly or didn't put on enough thermal paste.

I am not sure thats why I am wondering if anyone here has any ideas to my problems.

Did you clean both CPU and heatsink of old paste before applying new paste?

If cleaned, did you use a product high % isopropyl alcohol (no oils)

Did you apply a small amount of paste or use a pad? You can apply to much and it will raise the temp. (learned that one by doing it!)

Those are a few things that I might check.

Yeah I am pretty sure I might not have cleaned it off and just put another dab of paste on and then put the heatsink on. I think the best course of action is just o open it up clean it off and then see if I get better results.

Might want to try lapping the heatsink before you reinstall as well. Also, you may not have enough RAM. Battlefield 2 is pretty resource hungry, and that is probably causing your lag. A lot of BF2 players upgrade to 2gigs to eliminate their lag problems.

OK I reapplied the goo but it has not helped out at all. I tried playing COD2 and was getting alittle lag so I ran a test basically I opened the taskmanager and this temperture logger for my mobo. While playing COD2 I got 100% cpu usage and the temp went as high as 64 degrees celcius. This only started after I put this new mobo in maybe I reapplied the past bad again. What are good methods for applying the paste.
