CPU Temp Question: AMD K6-2 400 @ 500

Dave

I am running an AMD K62-400 @ 500

This is a retail CPU with AMD stock cooling ... it came with thermal grease from AMD, and I used it.

MB CPU temp sensor indicates 102 degF after running RC5 (100% CPU usage) for 8 hours.
IS THIS TEMPERATURE A PROBLEM RELATIVE TO LONG-TERM (3 YEAR) RELIABILITY?

BTW:
The machine works great, with no BSOD, no hangs, no problem shutting down using the WIN98SE Os (appropriately patched through Windows Update). RC5 is 770+ k/keys ... apparently normal for the K62 ... my P3700@933 does 2.7M+++ (dont remember xactly what it said).

The motherboard is an el-cheapo Matsonic 6393 D/E witht integral vid, sound, 10/100 NIC, USB , 56k modem, ATA66 ... micro-ATX form factor, 2 DIMM slots; $90 delivered ... I SAID el-cheapo right?

I hear what you are saying .... I was just curious what the range of normal operatingtemps was ... and what long-term successful 400@500 overclock temps were running for an AMD K6-2 chip ...

Thanks for your help.

I don't have a K6-3, but my K6-2 500 running at 550 idles at about 35 degrees Celsius, and peaks under heavy, extended use at anywhere from 48 to 55, which is a bit hotter than yours, and I haven't had a problem with it for almost a year, so I'd say your temperature range should be just fine..

Thanks Fardringle ... I've been running rock solid @ 500 for a couple of days nows ... stock cooling + default voltage ... I guess I'll try 550. I'm already pleased with getting 500 ... 550 would be gravy.

Thanks again for the info.
