my amd 64 3800 stock cooler
is this normal 60 C under heavy load?

idle round 42 and medium-heavy 50c?

That's definitely high. Should idle around 30-35, shouldn't exceed 50 under load.

i applied a thing layer of paste all over the cpu

If you put too much it can actually raise the cpu temp

You don't apply it all over the CPU, at least for AS5. I believe they tell you to put a drop the size of 3/4 of a grain of rice and then you get a circular imprint once you smash your cooler on top. I messed up last night on my Opty after I cleaned it out, and I'm sure it looks ugly, but temps look thesame as before, so I think I got a ugly oval instead of a clean circle as it usually is...

Did you take the thermal pad off the stock cooler before putting on the TIM paste?
