CPU temp in Asus A7V rev 1.02

Hi,

I am using Asus A7V revision 1.02 with AMD Duron 600Mhz. PC Probe is showing 59 degree temperature. The CPU fan (Cooler master) seems to be installed properly and is running fine.

After using PC for half an hour, I shut down and touched the heatsink. It was not very hot. I could keep my fingers easily for a long time.

Could somebody tell what is wrong ? Should I be worried ? I haven't done any overclocking.
Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. The only difference is that I'm running a Tbird 850. My guesses:

Or this mobo revision is preety bad ...
or Coolermaster are CRAP.

I'm leaning towards the second hypothesis ...

EDIT: Oh, mine gets preety hot to the touch ... almost burned my finger.

What BIOS? Try 1003 and turn on PCI Master Read Caching in it? 1003 has a much lower idle temp then 1004... 1004 idle temp is usually the same as its full load temp.... in 1003my temps ranged from 34-44... In 1004 My temps ranged from 43-44.

Have you checked your VIO-voltage to the CPU-bus, memory...
I think it should be 3,35 instead of the default 3,56 (read at page 21 in manual)
I've just changed mine to 3,35 and my temp decreased to around 48.

I have another problem with my system, I can't get it to boot windows...it just crashes all the time. And when I try to start on floppy he complains about corrupt files and so on, but when I disable the L1 and L2 cache memory it's working just fine....(the only problem is it then takes at least 15 minutes to start windows..)
Any suggestions??

/Johan

Johan,

Give us a little information on your system. If you are overclocking, the most likely culprit is low voltage, or just oc'ed too far. Reset the VIO to default, it was there for a reason. Remove everything except video, 1 stick of ram, CPU-HSF. Disable the audio if onboard, disable the ATA 100 controller in the BIOS unless your using it.

There are many other places to look, but without knowing anything about your system, I can't really help.

vjain, kuk,
The temperatures that you are getting seem pretty hot. Are you setups stable?

As for BIOS versions, the newer BIOSes report higher temps than the old ones, but that doesn't mean that it runs any hotter. Going to 1003 won't make it run any cooler. It would just make it easier to turn a blind eye to what may potentially be a problem.

joh,
it would be a good idea to check to see if your HSF is mounted properly. Make sure that it is flat against the surface of the CPU and that there isn't anything in between the two aside from thermal grease. Also, if the thermister is in between, take it out.

Hi again..
System spec.

-A7V rev 1.02, bios ver. 1004c
-AMD Athlon 750 Mhz, at the moment running at 95 Mhz
-One dimm 128 Meg pc133 on slot1, running at 100 Mhz
-HD, reformatted on this board..
-LS-120 drive
-have tried two different graphic cards, now running Diamond viper(agp)

That's all...
Have underclocked my CPU to about 720 Mhz, then it's sometimes possible to start windows with cache l1 l2 enabled but still veeery unstable!
So I should set my VIO on default again? But my memory is 3,3 volt memory!

I will soon go crazy if I cannot solve this...

/Johan

joh,

Do you have any idea what your case temp or chipset temps are like? Also, is you comp located near a heat source? Also, have you tried using another chip (if possible)?

My CPU-temp is around 44 degrees and MB temp around 30..
Do you think it's a bad CPU?? I was extremely careful when installing it so I don't think I've broken it..
