Hi All,
Sorry for the no0b question, but I came across something that's makes me wonder if I should worry. I just swapped out an MSI K7T266Pro2-RU (dead primary IDE controller) for an Asus A7V266-E. The new unit's working great, but the CPU temp is different for each board. MSI's monitoring sw reported between 33-37degrees C, while Asus' sw reports 43-48degrees C. Everything else is the same: Athlon XP 1800+, Alpha 8045, CoolerMaster aluminum case.. I figure there are 2 likely possibilities, and I'd like to confirm them if possible. The first is that it's possible that the cpu temp sensor is in a different location on the Asus board, and thus produces a different reading. The second is that the Alpha 8045 is a much tighter fit on the A7V266-E (it doesn't hit anything, believe it or not). Because it comes close to the first DIMM slot, my guess is that airflow on that side of the HSF may be impaired.
The third possibility is simply an inaccurate sensor, or inaccurate software.
I did mention a no0b question (sorry, this one's bad): No problem running the memory in the second DIMM slot, leaving the first one open to improve airflow around the HSF?
