First make sure that your motherboard has the latest BIOS, if it doesn?t then flash it to the latest version from the manufacturer?s website.

You can then install the dual core processor. Upon the first boot with the dual core processor installed, windows ?should? dynamically update the HAL to a multiprocessor HAL, over the current uni processor HAL. If it doesn?t update automatically you can update the HAL manually, but this shouldn?t be necessary.

I have a DFI LanParty UT nf4 SLI-DR

I checked dfi's site for a bios update and it appears that the FX-60 support was brought out in november of '05. I purchased my board in October of 2006. Last bios update was released in April of '06. I should be ok right? please?

as long as the bios is ok then just swapping ur cpu doesn't require a reinstall, the only thing that should require a reinstall is a new master hdd for ur os or a new main board, but mostly the main board as i do images which just go from drive to drive..

Ok, got the new CPU in there but the motherboard says its an unknown AMD processor. I looked in system and it says AMD Processor Model Unknown.

Is this an indication that I need a BIOS update? And just my luck the DFI site isnt responding!
It recognises it as a 2.6ghtz CPU which is the speed that the FX-60 runs at.

Any ideas?

Ok, just wanted to update. I finally was able to get onto DFI's download page and got the updated BIOS. Update went excellent (whoever decided to create WinFlash should be given a Ferrari, and mansion and a girl or two) and my mobo now officially recognizes my CPU as an FX-60.

Thanks for the help!
