Hi -

I recently installed and removed a ThermalTake Spark 7 cooler from my Abit IS7 board. When I lifted up the arm of the ZIF socket to get the CPU out, the CPU remained locked in the socket - I can't remove it. Any advice would be much appreciated - thanks!

I'd say just try to gently pry it out. I'm guessing some of the pins were bent when you inserted it, and it's now stuck because of the bent pins.

I'd go to the store and have them take a look. Theres a limit to what I'm willing to risk :)

Are you sure you have the socket opened all the way? On all the motherboards I've owned, the arm for the socket will run into a little hitch at about halfway when you're opening the socket with a cpu inserted. Make sure you're opening the socket all the way, i.e. the arm is perpendicular to the motherboard.

That's a P4 board...some (all? don't have a P4) heatsinks have a levered locking mechanism that some may mix up with the ZIF lever. Sure you moved the darker beige ZIF lever, not just the lever for the heatsink mechanism?
