CPU Steppings, how to find out

Once it is already installed with heatsink.

I need to remove the motherboard to remove the CPU heatsink.

Is there a way to find out the stepping and batch once it is in there? AMd opteron socket 939.

nope,

To find the stepping you are after for example "CABYE 0540FPBW", can only be sourced from looking at the etchings on the top of the IHS (top of the processor) itself.

CPU-z will tell you whether it is a D0, E4 revision etc only

That is what I thought. Doh. It was a CABYE but forgot to write all the rest down.
