Ok, here's the deal. My PC shuts down for what's seemingly no reason way too often - no viruses, it's clean of spyware, etc. I have a 2.53 P4 and there's no way it should be running at 100%, is there? If not, is that is? And what can I do to fix it? The rest of my system is in my profile.

Can we have some more information please? What os are you running? What processes are running? Ctrl+Alt+Del>task manger>processes> sort the cpu colum and see whats taking up the cpu

Hope this helps. Get back to us with the information.

well in the screenshot that you took, you were only using 10% cpu usage (look at the bottom). Of course we would need a screenshot when the "spike" occurs.

During a virus scan

Thing is, it could be anything - a Genesis emulator keeps it at a constant 90%+ rate, sometimes when I try to use Winamp, Thunderbird, Firefox at once.......quite frustrating.

Thanks for your help and patience!

Yup, everything including SP2 (but the problems started before I installed it - no difference pre/post SP2).
