CPU speed not right

Hi i just finished a machine for my mum..first one..everythins fine (looks like except) for one thing ..the Sempron 2400+ speed is only 1.333 i think something is wrong..and also why every time i start up i see lots of info coming up on screen, then after few seconds of data it boots up without any problem. can i avoid that? I tried to change the speed of fsb from 133 to 166 does it make any difference? Thanks

What motherboard do you have? It may not support the processor, and if it does you may have to update it's BIOS to recognize the higher clock speed.

The data you are seeing is most likely the computers initialization of all hardware, this is normal and you cannot avoid it.

-See if there's a jumper you need to flip
-Clear CMOS for the hell of it

i do not see any and what exclatly do you mean with CLEAR the CMOS..sorry my knowledge is very limited

Well I found this list of BIOSes at MSI, the release notes for the first one says support for Sempron processors. You may have this BIOS already installed, to check which you have, during boot up there should be a textual display of the BIOS revision and/or date.

Have you tried to change the multiplier manually?? It should be at about 10, 10 x 166 = 1.660ghz

It's an option in the bios, should be somewhere under CPU settings. Basically the multiplier is a number that's multiplied by the front side bus to get the clock speed of the processor. If you go through the user manual that came with the motherboard (which I highly suggest if you're at all interested) you should be able to find where the multiplier setting is located.

first try clearing the cmos (sets bios to defaults). then try flashing to a newer bios, but make sure you use caution when flashing. if you mess up or kill the power you could end up with a big paperweight. if it says you are running at a fsb of 133, the multiplier isnt your problem so i wouldnt worry about that yet. btw you might also find cpuz helpful if you dont already use it.

Yeah, that board is a bit of a pain, ran into the same problems too, as it acutally uses jumpers to set the fsb settings.

In the above link has all the download for the motherboard. You will have to be running Bios version 1.2 for proper support of the Sempron cpus which was mentioned before. as well as you have to set the fsb setting to 166/333, which on page 10 in the manaul in the link above shows.
