I'm biting the bullet to get this card soon, and want to see what kind of cpu speeds ATers are using with?

Hey FYI..

I bought a 9700 with my Athlon 1.33Ghz. I recently upgraded to an Athlon XP2000 (1.67Ghz).
I don't have the exact numbers with me but I remember the percentage. I'll try and get the actuall numbers when I'm home. In any case:

In Unreal Tournament 2003 @ 1024x768 With 4xAntialiasing and 16xAnisotropic filtering and all setting cranked up to "holy sh1t" my numbers in flyby didn't change at all but my botmatch scores went up by about 22-25%fps! UT2003 is pretty hard on the CPU.

If you are using a 1.3Ghz or slower I'd say skip the 9700.

Get the fastest CPU you can afford for this card because it really needs something decent to do it justice. I upgraded my 2.0A GHz to a 2.666B GHz system and most of my benchmarks visibly scaled upward.

I posted this thread in another forum and you might find it useful.

Nice work, keep em coming. Seems that 3Ghz cpus will do the card some extreme justice.

:DI just got my 9700 a week ago and I'm just realizing the potential of this awesome card. I have a P4 2.66 Northy w/ C1 stepping. This proc rocks, no matter what I do, I can't get it over 38c at load. It's an ice cube!!! Any way, 162 fsb w/ 3:4 divider for 3.2GHz, DDR 426 w/ Corsair XMS PC3500c2 Ram and my 9700 at 360.5/ 317.5 for 17,007 3Dmarks!!!! You HAVE to get the new drivers and you need the tweak program so you can oc the 9700.

I've got a lowly 1600+ running @10.5x146MHz/1.53gig. My 3DMark2001se score is 12860 on the first run. I have'nt had the card for 2hrs, so i'll have to see how well it does tweaked.

The best my 8500 could do @300/300 was something like 9460.

I'm building my new system tomorrow, as soon as fedex delivers the rest of the parts. From the Athlon XP CPU scaling that is shown here any system with a 1.3-1.4 Ghz system would be well spent over the ti-4600. I'm getting an XP 2000+ on the new msi kt400 board with 1gb of pc-2700, and the WD Special edition 80Gb hdd. Hope thats a fast enough system for a little while :D.

:Q:eek::Q

Well the tally so far is a tie between 1.5-2.0 and 2.0-2.5 at 8 a piece, and a third placing with 5 votes for 2.5-3.0 cpus!

;)Yeah, but that's because more people own those cpu's cause they're more affordable!! The only thing you're gonna get to 3.0GHz is basically a 2.66 0r 2.8 P4. No AMD chip is gonna be over 2.2-2.3 unless someone's got a XP2600+ and the majority of people own 1.6 to 2.26 P4's and XP1600's to XP2200's!!!! JMHO:cool:
