currently i havea pentium D 2.8 ghz processor 820 socket 775 would it be possible to switch out the proccessor for a faster pentium d 775 or no? or could i even switch out the processor to the new core dou 2?

What mobo?

Chances are you're stuck with the D8xx series, or at best D9xx.

C2D required a new VRM, so you wont be using that.

Dell's website says up to PD 820, but I'm not sure if that's actually the highest it will support or just the highest you can add to it from Dell. Your upgrade path is made much more difficult that it's a Dell, the motherboards in retail systems are notoriously proprietary.

What chipset does the board have? It is almost guranteed not to be core 2 duo compatible, but it depends a lot on the chipset as to weather or not it can accept 65nm dual cores(9xx series) or even higher speed 8xx series, although most likely it does. Depends on the bios as well.
