Cpu score low in 3dmark06

I just got a 8800GTS along with that i have a Core 2 Duo e6600 (stock). My GPU scores are perfect in 3dmark06. But my Cpu scores are lower than normal. I just updated the bios and it's still the same way. I get 0.429 in cpu test 1 and 0.686 in cpu test 2. My CPU score is 1357. Any options?
I couldn't find any chipset drivers.
Memory is Corsair xms 2 DDR 667 4-4-4-12 timings.......

Josh, your chipset drivers are the ones that came on a CD, in the same box your motherboard came in.

The cpu temps are high, but i know it's not right because it stays cool to the touch even at 100% cpu usage. Could it be that the motherboard thinks the cpu is overheating so it downclocks it automatically?

I'm right. It downclocks it when it thinkgs it's getting too hot. How can i turn that off?

You don't want to turn that off. That's to keep you from having to buy a new processor every few minutes. Your heatsink isn't seated completely. If it's the stock heatsink, you should install the heatsink with the motherboard out of the case, sitting on the silver plastic that it came in, so you can see which "feet" didn't completely seat. And don't remove the cooler, just take the motherboard out, and finish seating it. If you remove the cooler, you'll have to also remove the thermal crap that Intel puts on there, then reapply other thermal compound.

Whoa, 70C on the processor if I'm reading that right.

Take off your heatsink, clean both the processor's heat spreader and the bottom of the heatsink with a papertowel and rubbing alcohol (91% for best results). Reapply quality thermal paste (AS5 for example), and reseat the heatsink. Enjoy.

The Heatsink is seated on fine. I'm feeling the heatsink at full load and it is cool to the touch. I don't think it's overheating. I think my cpu performance is related to my motherboards performance. I'm missing 0.4~ fps in cpu test 1 and 2 in 3dmark06. Any other thoughts?

The heatsink can be cool to the touch at full load because it's not making proper contact with the cpu to dissipate the heat. If the heatsink was warm/hot then you'd know it's making good contact.

ya i would agree i just installed for one of my buddies a new pocessor and when i didnt have the heat sink installed properly it was at 70 c....i would check that and make sure that you have really got it seated where it should

that looks about right....that exact thing happend to me on my last build...its hard to tell on those crappy standard heatsinks if they are ok....glad that worked out for you...those temps are much better
