cpu rma problem

i rma'd my athlon 2400xp.they've refused to replace it because i removed the foam pads from the cpu before fitting the heat sink.are they right?

ROFL...um...logically, no. By there rules, maybe - they can make any rules they want. What company is this? Doesn't sound like Newegg or Mwave.

Why would you need to do that? I think they are well within their rights in this case. What heatsink can't fit because of the pads?

I believe even using a 3rd party heatsink on the processor voids the warranty as well. Modification of the chip (i.e. unlocking it) would void it as well, so there's no reason to think that pulling the foam pads off wouldn't.

Edit: Are you RMAing to AMD?

Exactly...how can input a chip without removing the foam pads from around it in the case? Who are you RMA'ing to? Also you're right about the 3rd party heatsink.
