I believe that my AMD Athlon XP2800+ is failing. I use my system mostly for Flight Sim. I do not want to do a full system upgrade till mid summer. I need a review of this plan: I plan to upgrade now with a Athlon 64 3800+ and use a ASUS A8N5X MB since this board will allow me to upgrade to a Athlon 64 Dual Core eventually. I want to re-install my Corsair TwinX 1GB DDR400 XMS3200 RAM, WD 120 GB SATA hard drive, and Radeon 9800np Graphics Card. My understanding is that the new FSX Flight Sim does not yet fully utilize the Dual Core CPU is why I am not thinking Dual Core.
See http://blogs.msdn.com/tdragger/archive/2006/08/21/711152.aspx
When I upgrade I would like to ad another identical hard drive. I am very receptive to better suggestions. If I am thinking dumb, please break it to me kindly.

The only problem with your plan, as I see it, is that socket 939 CPUs are being phased out, especially the dual-core parts. This might mean that by the time you DO decide to upgrade to dual-core you may not be able to find one.

what is your budget, and are you opposed to buying used parts?

I am probably going to sell my "old" gear in the very near future, including a 4800+, Asus A8N-Deluxe and 2GB Corsair TwinX PC3200 Ram. Pm me if your insterested and we can talk price.

Order today. Newegg has a dual core 4200 for $155 (oem). Or you can wait and pay higher prices on ebay. Dual core 939's have no where to go but up (in price).
