Hi,

My ati 9700pro died recently, so I got a geforce 6600gt.

From what I understand, in HL2, my p4 1.6 oc'd to 2.2 is underdriving my 6600gt.

So my question is, what cpu do I need to match well with my 6600gt? I run at 1280x1024 on my lcd.

If you decide to upgrade only the CPU, then make sure your motherboard is the right socket for the chip you wish to upgrade to.
If that's a socket 478 motherboard, then you might be able to find a cheap 1.8A to overclock. You'll have to find out whether your motherboard supports 533MHz FSBs before considering a 'B' P4.

Time for a new motherboard/CPU combo. For games, as said, get a 939 pin Venive 3000 combo.

Oh yea I forgot to mention I'd probably get new mobo as well.

I just kinda wanted to know what range I should get so I wouldn't go overkill on the cpu.

I have a 1.6 o/ced to 2.2 as well, but with an ATI 9600 Pro. What is this underdriving you speak of?

I'd imagine he means his CPU isn't keeping up with his GPU, and is thus acting as a bottleneck.
