CPU/RAM FSB Question

Hi, it's about time for an upgrade for me but I don't have enough cash to get both a new proc and new RAM at the same time. I'm currently running a TBird 1.2 GHz with 2x Crucial PC2100 256MB on a Shuttle AK39N.

My question is will I be able to upgrade to a new Barton CPU with 333MHz FSB with the slower 266MHz RAM in there? I hear that the newer Bartons have been multiplier locked so I don't think reducing the CPU FSB and then increasing the multiplier will be viable. (Actually I'm not even sure you CAN change the muliplier on this board, I have looked around in the BIOS but didn't find anything; it annoys me since I had this proc runnin at 1.4 on an Epox 8k7A).

So what do you guys think my options are? Thanks for any input.

It isn't optimal, but it will work. And it should be much faster than what you've got.

When you've saved some more pennies, buy some good RAM that will at least match the FSB of the CPU in speed and you'll be ready to try and overclock it...

Keep in mind if you plan on OCing that new Barton your Shuttle can only hit 33MHz FSBs:
CPU FSB:
333/266/200 MHz support
