CPU Question - Upgrading a P2 to a P3

Hey All,

I have a Compaq Armada m300 and I was wondering if it was possible to pop in a P3 600 (which some models had) to replace the P2 366 which mine had. I know that the P3 models had a BX chipset, but I'm unsure if the P2 versions had the same chipset. Was the BX compatible with the P2...or conversly...was there any P2 chipsets that were compatible with a P3. The FSB is, from what I gather without having my hands yet on the lappy, at 100mhz.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

In Compaq M300s the CPU is soldered to the board so you can't change it (I had a look inside one). You'd need a whole new systemboard to make this upgrade and I'm sure that probably isn't worth it.

Hehe...nah.. just bought it...don't even have it yet and a fresh copy of Vector Linux waiting on my desktop..think I'll give it a spin..🙂
