CPU Problems...

Are there any known issus with the swiftech MC462 and the Epox 8K7A? I have killed a Duron and a T-bird today and I dont know why. I followed the heatsink instructions to the letter of the law and I booted up my machine and only the Video card bios appeared. Then some smoke rose from the CPU and I heard what sounded like popcorn popping. I then removed the heatsink and found the core cracked and the surface mount electronics no longer surface mounted. I dont feel Im an Idiot, I've built systems before. I bought the swiftech with the idea of great cooling so I could overclock. Could the problem be my motherboard or the heatsink placing too much pressure on the CPU. Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. By the way Im writing this from a Complague w/233 Pentium so I really need to rectify this ASAP.

hmm.. i know it took a lot of elbo grease to get my heatsink on... do you think you could have cracked the core putting your heatsink on?
