CPU problem with new build

I just build a new box with a 4000+ and a DFI NF4 SLI-DR. It boots to Windows fine but when I ran Prime overnight it crashed. I ran Prime again this morning and it showed a calculation error after about an hour. I installed MBM5 and it shows my CPU at 72C. I thought maybe the HSF wasn't seated properly so I re-installed it, to no effect. So I installed an Arctic Freezer 64 and the temps are exactly the same. This is not overclocked. Do I have a bad CPU or is there something I'm overlooking?

I would say something needs to be lapped. Are you using AS5? That temp is way too high.

I used AS Ceramique with the Arctic Freezer, should have mentioned that. What's most weird is that temps are exactly the same, no change at all.

Something else that's weird, when I reboot and check temps in the bios it idles at around 40C. It's only when it boots into Windows that the temps go all crazy. You can actually see the CPU fan spin up to full when Windows loads.

*edit*
Also, the heatsink does not get hot at all to the touch.

ok i have a question, how much did you apply thermal grease (as5 or as ceramique.) if you apply too much, it may be an issue.

Was a guestimate. There isn't any being squeezed out by the HSF.

Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the bracket, making good contact with the CPU and is firmly attached.
