CPU problem (P3 850)

Recently, when i leave my computer on for about 12-15 hours, my computer starts to lag pretty bad after it's been on a while. BTW, I just clocked it down to 850, and i have multiple fans running in my system, so i don't know what the problem seems to be. I have a program that detects my CPU usage and usually it's running between 1-5%, but after about 15 hours, it's at 95%-100% constantly and my programs take forever to load up.. ANY suggestions what could be the problem? Better cpu heatsink required?

This is a common Win9x problem.... the 9x kernel isn't made to be left on long time periods, try goign to an NT based system like 2000.

heh, you probably wouldn't believe it, but the 9x kernel surprised me: w/ a p166mmx, and WinME, that computer stayed on for a whopping 35 days!! and it would have stayed longer, if i didnt need to install another nic....

Interesting.
The above poster is correct to assume this isnt a heat/hardware problem though. It is the high load on your processor that is causing you slow-down.
You may want to look at the processes and determine which ones are causing the most load, task manager is perfect for this. Once you have narrowed down the list, find out what apps/utilites/services are responsible for the processes. Eliminate them if need be.

Your slow down is most likely related to an incompatible app or software bug, not a hardware problem. That said, it could be that the high load is causing extra heat in the processor. If things are to hot, it is a result of high load, not bad hardware. Reduce the load and the heat should follow suit.
