I read a recent article saying AMD price drops on I believe August 1st. Mainly semperon and a new lower spec dual core. Anyone know of this?

I heard July 1st... Obviously that didn't happen. It may or may not, but I think it is just rumors flying around now... That is when the X2 3800+ is being released IIRC, so that may be a good time...

Thanks do you happen to know where you saw that? If not I will just wait the 3 weeks and see.

AMD typcally offers CPUs with similar "+" ratings at the same per unit price to distributors. So whatever you see for current 4000+ processors would be a good guess for the LOWEST you'll see. Distributors and retailers will charge a premium... because they can.

There was nothing said about a 4000+. If you check distributors list, 3800+ looks like its coming in on 7/25, but there's NOTHING about a 4000+. I think most ppl who talk about a 4000+ are just concluding it from the 4200/4400 and 4600/4800 combo that there must be a 3800/4000. If there will be a 4000, the chances are lower because its harder to get good yields on a 1MB x2 chip, esp when its supposed to be a cheap dual core.

That makes great sense and I agree the 1meg cache would be the first problem area so the 3800 would most probably be a 512meg cache chip.

Would they dare do a 256meg cache or even 384?
