Cpu pins bent

My newb friend bought a P4 3.0E and he bent about 15 pins or so trying to install it. Will the pins break easy if he tries to bend them back straight.

Pins generally don't break easy, but then again, how the he!! do you bend 15 pins!? I've bent one trying to install a CPU before, and even two one time, but 15? That's nuts!

Btw, tell your buddy that all modern CPU's are "ZIF" - Zero Insertion Force. You just line it up with the socket and it will drop in. Do not put pressure on the CPU, just let it 'fall' into the socket. Forcing it in is how pins get bent!

doesn't sound like he has a choice but to bend them back. I would do it with a straight edge very gently just enough so that it fits in the socket.

I have bent pins trying to remove the CPU from the Intel undestructable package the chips come in. If you are careful about bending them back they shouldn't break. 15 sure is alot 🙁

I would of been cool to get a pic but the cpu pins are back to normal it seems. He had this electronic tech friend at work who fixed it for him. He is going to wait on me to put the cpu in for him, so that it doesn't happen again.

Keep him away from sharp objects while you're at it 😉.

for future reference, it is documented that running a credit card through the pins will help.

my personal experienced used a thick needle for the trick.
