CPU PCIe controller good for all cards?

Building a new computer and with the X99 Firewire not supported as it is being phased out for newer standards (Thunderbolt) I am wondering about that.

So I am going to get a PCIe controller card for that so I can use my Audio Interface.

Now I was toying with the idea that having a 40lane CPU I can waste some putting my controller card into one of the PCIe slots that goes directly to the CPU; hoping to bypass the DMI.

Ofcourse you can put a x1 card in a x16 slot no problem, but having googled after confirmation that the new direct CPU controller wont complain getting a non graphics card I have drawn nil results.

And it always says "Discrete graphics support..." and all people are using slots connecting via the X99 DMI so I can't really get any confirmation if it works or not.

Q. Putting down my x1 PCIe1.1 controller card in the dedicated graphics PCIe x16 3.0 slot connecting directly to my CPU PCIe buss. EDIT: NOT Dedicated, Descrete... Man this post is a mess grammatically - lol EN EDIT
Will it work?

Not the easiest post for me to follow unfortunately.

Tell you what, if I am understanding you cortectly, post a link to the board and card you are inquiring about for compatibility.

Yeah, kinda rambling post...

I am looking at buying the MSI X99S XPOWER
http://us.msi.com/product/mb/X99S-XPOWER-AC.html#hero-overview

I might go with the X99X for the USB 3.1

Now it got a PCIe 1x lane that is routed via the X99 chip that then uses the DMI 2.0 x4 buss to the CPU.

I really want to see if there is a difference in latency if I can use the PCIe 3.0 that is routed directly to the CPU internal controller, bypassing the need to go over the DMI buss.

The PCIe 1.1 x1 Firewire card is the Lycom PE-107.

Got a nice Texas Instrument chipset controlling the 1394 part, and is considered among DAW user to be the best (doesn't say what chip though...)

Would be nice if it worked as I hope it does 🙂

This could be really cool as it might save a little bandwidth on that DMI buss.

Going to use 4 lanes for my M.2 drive too. That Samsung SSD got 1500+ sequential throughput, yeah. To bad NVM wasn't implemented...

Right, looking good so far. The research continues!

Cheers!
