This is a brand new build.

ASUS P8Z68-V Pro
Intel 2600k
Corsair AX850
Corsair 8GB DDR3 (2x4GB)
MSI N580GTX Lightning
Noctua NH-C14

Slapped all the parts together, booted into the UEFI bios and noticed that my Vcore began creeping up to 2.040V. When rebooted, POST error "CPU Overvoltage Error!" is displayed.

CPU Temps are reported at 28C, so it's not overheating. What the heck could this be? When monitoring the voltage rails in the BIOS, they're stable -- not fluctuating all over the place.

I don't have an OS installed yet, so I'm limited to the BIOS and it's diagnostics.

I've updated the MB BIOS to 0801, cleared the CMOS, disabled PLL Overvoltage; none of it made a difference. The issue still persists. There is -0- overclocking going on here, it's a brand new system/first boot.

Any ideas?

Edit: Verified TPU/EPU switches are OFF, set CPU Vcore to 1.25V and PLL to 1.70. No effect.

I had the same issue with my new P8Z68 Gen3 but not to that extreme, Mine was spiking up to 1.59. I set mine to override the voltage to 1.29 Volts and shut off one more selection which I can't recall till I get home and the problem went away. I believe the other setting adjusted the voltage according to load but I could be mistaken.

Nothing like spiking the CPU upon first POST! I would check the manual on how to set the Vcore in the bios and hurry up and boot it and change it as fast as you can to 1.3v.

At least do that until you find the real issue ;)

No effect. I've set the CPU Vcore to 1.25, it still increases well past. CPU Vcore PLL is set to 1.70.

A part of me isn't completely convinced that the voltage actually is increasing.. if it was, wouldn't the CPU Temperature be affected? Or hell, wouldn't the system crash -- being fed 2.040V?

RMA that board before it kills your CPU. Something is really wrong.

I would be calling Asus and telling them to replace my processor if their motherboard fried my CPU.

Did you disable LLC like the others suggested?

Well, ASUS agrees. They said to replace the board.. let's see how NCIX handles replacements.. f&!@.

might wanna check real careful for bent ziff socket pins
you didnt accidentally drop a screwdriver on mobo?

The more and more I read this, the more I am thinking its a misread. But the question is.. would it be the CPU or mobo throwing the misread? If you were at 2.04v you would of fried that CPU instantly and your temps wouldn't be under 30c. They should POST in the 70c range.

Nope, no bent pins. And no, I didn't drop a screwdriver. :p

Yea, I'm betting it's a bunk sensor. I imagine the CPU would've gone up in flames by now.. the temperature was fluctuating between 28C and 29C while in the BIOS. I've since pulled the board and I'm awaiting an RMA from NCIX -- depending on how they handle it, I may just deal direct with ASUS. We'll see..

This sure ruined my day.. :(
