CPU overheating?

So, I recently switched to a new larger SSD as my C: drive, and twice since the reinstall of Windows 7 my computer has just powered down out of nowhere while in Windows. When it does this, the fan (presumably the CPU fan?) goes into wildly loud mode.

It boots back up fine each time and seems fine... but I'm worried that maybe my CPU is having issues.

It seems odd it would only start after this reinstall, though.

Are there any other possible causes? If I end up having to reapply thermal paste or something, can that be done with the motherboard still in the case or must it come out?

Any suggestions are appreciated. it's an i5 Intel

Sounds like it could be the SSD at fault.
Was it having these problems before upgrading to the SSD ?

what temperature is the cpu at ?
what model laptop ?

Wasn't having this issue before the new SSD, but my old C: Drive was also an Intel SSD... just 100gb smaller.

Not a laptop, a custom desktop. I'll get something to monitor CPU temperatures tomorrow probably... going to bed for now. Thank you for responding.

Odd that anything might be inclined to overheat when all that's happening is windows.

Oh I almost forgot to say, it has been REALLY dry here lately and there has been so much static electricity... I could swear both times this has happened, it was right at the moment my hand conducted static electricity into the computer desk. But then that happens quite a lot...
