Hi all,

I haven't built a system in several years, but used to follow/buy into all the trends very closely (starting with the dual celly 366 to 550).

I am looking to build a new system, and would like this to be a big performer. I won't be playing games, but will be doing a lot of programming (java, .net, rails, sql).

I've tried searching/reading through all the forums and posts but I would love if someone can sum up for me what's been happening. I see a lot about x64 and dual cores, where is all of this today?

What combo are people buying for big bang/buck??

Thanks, am glad to be back on the forums after a long hiatus!

-Graham

PS Bonus points for a CPU/mobo combo that could run OSX if Apple ever sold it

Check out the Athlon 64 X2 dual core 3800+. It's the best bang for your buck for the dual core CPU's and you'll benefit from it if you're doing programming. Pair that up with a gig of RAM and you'd be set. If you want to learn more about overclocking, check out the sticky in this forum.
