Hello folks,
i ve got a p233MMX cpu on an ASUS P5A-B mobo. the mobo is really good and extremely overclockable, however my chip wont do 292 unless i turn off its L1 cache. Tried everything, uppin the voltage all the way to 3.2V (chip's default is 2.8V), stickin in pc100 RAM, nothing seems to work. The thing is, the temperature reported by asus probe when my cpu is running @292 is pretty much the same as the one reported when my cpu is running at plain 233, well maybe 3-4 C higher. So its not an overheat issue. I hear that lots of those p233MMX chips o/c to 292 real easily on good mobos, and since i got one that is obviously one of the best for overclocking Socket7 CPUs, if not the best, i dont see any reason why my cpu shouldnt overclock to 292? I actually took off my stock F&H, applied some thermo paste on the cpu die and then put on a P3 F&H on top, btw that heatsink is like 3x bigger than the one i had before. Still, its no use.. Is it my chip that just aint capable of reaching 292 with L1 cache on regardless of what motherboard its on? Any ideas anyone?
Now, another issue here is my CPU's temperature, it normally runs at 55 C and can go all the way up to 64-65 under a full load, is that OK for a P1 MMX cpu? i mean it still runs at ~55C +- 3 C regardless of whether its o/c'ed to 263 or 291 or not o/c'ed at all.
I checked the heatsink, there are no air gaps between it & the cpu, besides i applied some thermopaste on the cpu die to maximise the heat transfer between the cpu & the heatsink. I looked all over intel's site, could not find any info on what temperature my cpu should be normally running at, anybody out there who knows what temperature P1 MMX CPUs normally run at? Thanks in advance..
Also i m getting these IE & Windows Explorer lock ups all the time, the application window just freezes and when i right click on it on the task bar and click close it just wont close. Sometimes it closes down itself, after 1-2 minutes. Typical ie/win explorer lock ups, however i been recently getting lots of those, like at least 5-6 of those each and every day. I m also constantly getting these really annoying msgsrv32 lock ups, the windows totally freezez so i have to press ctr+alt+del 2 times and shut down that msgsrv32 process. Now windows starts acting really weird after i shut down that msgsrv32 thing, kind of as if i disabled my L1 cache ya know? If i press ctrl+alt+del and wait for like 2-3 seconds and then click cancel, everything goes back to normal for a while, but then the same thing starts happening again.. Think that might be related to my CPU overheating? But since its still runnin at around 55 C even its not o/c'ed??? Really weird.. Anyways, I'd most certainly appreaciate any input u guys may have on all these probs i been experiencing lately, thanks lots in advance
