CPU needs more pylons?

Looking for a cheap upgrade, so I found this on newegg.com CPU and MoBo deal.

Now with that deal the mobo there has an 8pin connector for the CPU power, but 4 of the pins are covered by a cap. That leads me to believe in some circumstances 4pin would be fine. In others 8pin would be needed. Otherwise why make a cap for 4 pins?

Anyway, the CPU as you see from the link is 2 cores.

My old mobo had the 8 pin with 4 covered. I ran it with only 4 pins connected for over a year without issue.

You don't have to buy a new PSU. The main advantage for 8-pin CPU power is just more stability blah blah for the max overclocking power user. Unless you plan on OC'ing to some huge number then you'll be fine with 4 pin power


However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade your PSU sometime, that brand isn't very well known and it's usually best to be sure not to skimp on a power supply

I plan on light to moderate OC. Really nothing more than the fan that comes with it with some nice thermal paste cant handle. Maybe to 3~!Ghz. I'm coming from a A64 Venice 3000+, so even stock will blow me away.

Haha thats almost exactly what im about to buy.

Indeed I tell that to people getting a PSU as well. The reviews were very good, had a good amp level on 12v/5v and was well over the peak power of my hardware. I read some reviews on some PSU sight and they rated it as 'ok'. I assumes that means "not going to catch fire" and that was good enough

When i really go all out ill be looking at PC Power & Cooling, unless they have gone bad in the last couple years. 1GW modular thx xD
