Cpu needed to bring mobo back to life?

Has anyone ever heard of a cpu needed to reset motherboard to working order?

I have a MSI K8N with 3500+

The 3500+ died in an overclock.

I put a new 3500+ and it wouldnt work, brand new from local store.

It would not post.

I put in a used 3200+ and WHAM it fired up.

Do you think I should try the new 3500 now or do you think if it didnt work before it most likley wont work if I try again?

So, question remains, does a mobo sometimes have to hit post before its reset and similar cpu can be reinstalled?

sound very silly I know but I was just curious

Well if you didn't get the BIOS reset from the OC...
It might have tried to overclock again on the new 3500...
Seeing the 3200 might have stopped it from trying to OC it...
Just a shot in the dark...

Explain what youre saying Im a little lost.

he means that if you set 4Ghz 2V on the motherboard, fry a chip, then remove it and put another one in without clearing the CMOS - the new chip will also fry. You cleared the CMOS so you're fine.

If I were you I would assume the new 3500 is a dud. Go swap it for a new one.

Ok, I understand.

One more question.

If you fry a cpu, then clear cmos and put another cpu and it doesnt post, it normally means the cpu is a fluke?
