CPU/MOBO upgrade?

Hi Guys,I'am thinking of doing a small upgrade to my gaming rig.Just mobo and cpu nothing else.I was looking at the AMD 2.2ghz Opteron 175 DC/939 and match it with the Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe.I'll OC just a little, not much.I would like to achieve very good gaming quality.Would this ''package'' work well together?I'am not concerned about saving $$$$.

Thanks again.

What's the rest of your system, and what games are you playing? Upgrading the video card might make more sense if you have at least a 3200+ or P4 3.2 GHz.

Thanks Dave, this is what I have now.

AMD Athlon 64 4000+/939(San Diego)/Arctic Silver5
Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra/939/Zalman CNPS7000-CU
Ati Radeon X1900XT 512MB/DDR3
Kingston Hyper X 2GBDDR400
Maxtor 80GB SATA
Maxtor 160GB SATA
SONY Floppy&CD-ROM
Raidmax Scorpio case
Enermax Liberty 500W
Windows XP PRO SP2

Sorry Dave,the games I play.

F.E.A.R.
DOOM 3.
HALF LIFE 2.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon-Advanced Warfighter.
etc,etc............

Yes, with a 4000+ you should only see a difference in upgrading in silly benchmarks like running Doom3 at 640x480 to get 520 frames per second instead of just 490.

If you aren't satisfied the only noticeable upgrade you can make is to crossfire or SLI.

what areas are you wanting to make faster? gaming? encoding? help us out a bit so we can try to help you fine tune your rig 😉

are you stuttering or is it a benchmark deal? for fps the only way to increase it over a x1900xt is to get one of the crossfires setups as DaveSimmons said.

if you are stuttering what game and what resolution?
