cpu/ mobo question

ok, im not overly educated when it comes to the internal workings of a computer, and i have a question... i have an amd athlon 1700xp now... does this mean that my motherboard will accept any amd athlon xp? can i upgrade to a 3000xp?

3000xp has a higher FSB than your mobo supports. The highest you could go is the non-barton 2700+ assuming it runs at the same fsb as your 1700+ (I don't know what core revision you have)

not sure if it helps, but i got my processor and mobo at one of the amd giveaways about 3 years ago... not sure if you remember that??

LOL no not really. The best I can suggest without knowing your current fsb is the 2700+ non barton. I would think that would work fine.
