CPU / MOBO combo. w/ a small budget, Help??

You Are Buying a CPU and MB at the best time and right now the best Value for money you can get is a

AMD AthlonXP 2500+ Barton CPU 1.83Ghz 333FSB 512k for $88us ( $176au )

and an Nforce2 Based Motherboard Should be around $110us ( $220au )

If You want a Recomended Nforce2 Board EPOX has always been good for Stability and all around Sweetness

but then again they are all pretty good .. remember to Avoid the ones with onboard videocard unless the card your running is crappier then a Geforce4mx ....

Don?t wast your time with Pentium 4 you wont get a better deal then the Nforce 2500+ System ... Ohh and the Onboard 6 channel Nvidia Sound Unit and Dual Network Device on the Nforce2 board may be better then the sound card and network card u already have so your in a way upgrading those things too FOR FREE !!

😀 .... good luck

It does come with that PSU. Sux, then. Maybe I can just get a diff. PSU. It's been awhile since I shopped for hardware, I would appreciate your suggestions.

if your gonna get a different PSU, the case alone is not worth $50+shipping. for PSU's, look for fortron or sparkle which are good PSU's and are not as expensive an antec or enermax

it also works well as a lanning BOX... to take this over a friends place is like taking a VCR somewhere ... easy
at $50 .. i think its worth it and that comes with a PSU ... only 230w but it runs my CPU 1 gig of ram hard drive CDRom and GeforceFX 5600 with no problem ... mind you the case only has room for 1 hard drive and 1 CD rom hehe

8rda+ $85 shipping included from Newegg.com
1700+ dltc $59 plus shipping from svc(while they last)
256mb twinmos $56 plus s/h at memoryx.com
pc3200

$200 on the nose! Well actually not. There will be a few bucks for shipping. But take the cheapest shipment and you should stay less than $210 for everything delivered. Not bad for a setup that should scream.

Several items:

Refurb = pig in a poke

A good Raidmax case with decent power supply and 2 front USB ports can be had for $34 from The Chip Merchant, or spend 12 bucks more for one of the blue or yellow ones. While ^ is a good performance system you did say $200 for mobo, CPU and memory. Perhaps the Fry's deal of something like a 2200+ OEM and ECS m/b for $100, hsf for $20, and the rest on memory (512 of PC3200), tax, etc might come in around that figure. While not a stellar overclocker, it's very cost effective and has reasonable performance with future upgradability. I've put 3 or 4 of these type of systems together for clients where cost is a serious factor in the past few months, and they have be adaquate for the need.

tnx for the replies. i got my mind set on the AMD and Epox. with whatever i have left, i'm gonna save that for one of them alum. cases from coolermaster.
