Guy is on track to ROI like 6x 3900X, 3950X, and 5950X or something like that, in only a few months! If you want to buy that $750 12/16-core Ryzen, buy it, and mine on it, to pay itself off!

Watch for higher CPU prices on multi-core CPUs too? Right when Alder Lake and DDR5 is coming out? Just great...

Rabid mined a lot of his coins before the difficulty increased a lot so a large chunk of his ROI doesn't reflect the current profitability though which is a fraction of what it was.

I question him spending $700 on a used 3950X though when a 5950X is about the same price on amazon when I saw this video earlier today lol

With that said, profitability is still pretty nice, I have a handful of Ryzen 5900X/5950X that are chia servers now mining this and I am bringing in about $450-475 a month at the current RTM price around $0.0079 not including electricity costs.


Edit: Anandtech needs to have a mining/crypto section :p

That's really nice. Is that in total, or per CPU? I have a number of Zen2 Ryzens, but only 6C/12T and 8C/16T (3600 and 3800X).

I wanted to pick up some 3900X (12C/24T) for DC work and CPU mining (with NH, XMR/Monero). Looks like those might be higher in demand now, darn.

I wish it was per cpu, I would totally do what Rabid is doing with the shelves and all cpus mining haha.

I have a 2x 5900X, 5950X, 3900X, and an old TR 2920X doing Raptoreum with about 90% of their threads.

CPU mining on XMR is already a thing. Eventually you wind up competing with malware miners and all profits go out the window.

I would not invest in Raptorium mining.

Raptoreum has a market cap of around $700k

It's nearly impossible to buy or sell Raptoreum for USD or anything else.

atm this is very niche. Feel free to tool around with it as a hobby project if you think the value will take off some day. Committing any serious amount of hardware or power to the project runs the very real risk of total loss

And frankly, the world doesn't need another PoW project.

edit: my data is old, Raptoreum has a market cap of $6.4m now. Kudos to anyone who got in on this back in February. They might have a little money, since the token price is getting close to $.01 . Trading volume is still below $40k though, and there aren't many exchanges dealing it in. TradeOgre? SouthXchange? This token is like one of the crap tokens I used to see on Poloniex all the time.

There it is. Depending on where you are, you may want to check up on that. Electricity has gotten expensive. I was paying ~46øre (0.4DKK) per KWh back in spring. We're already past 1DKK per KWh and it's still rising. Worse, that's before taxes.

Turns out Raptoreum is hybrid PoW/PoS. You can invest in nodes and shared nodes. It looks like most of the exchanges that carry it are pretty fishy though.

$49 USD / day between 8 3900X-esque CPU mining rigs.

Making MORE per CPU, than you can make per GPU mining Flux or ETH on a 3070!

Best part is, once ETH goes PoS... CPU mining is unaffected!

Rewards are definitely lower than before now that the difficulty is up but I am still making about $6 a day on a 3900X and $8 on a 5950X with the price increase.

Meanwhile, trial-packages from VM hosting providers are probably off the charts.

Speaking of which, could this actually hurt AMD's position with VM providers? Or do they mine on their own with their idle cycles? (Keep in mind HVAC costs, I doubt that cloud hosting providers mine.)

HDD mining has died down a bit, and newer Zen3 chips aren't substantially faster for Raptoreum mining than Matisse, so mostly it's old 3900X chips selling out, not the newer stuff. Zen3D might be different due to the massive L3, though.

True, but as long as there are people who create a new kind of crypto/blockchain, using various computer components, and enough people buy into it as an "investment", this will become the new normal in PCs.

I can't even imagine what the new MSRP will be for the next few GPU generations that come out. Nvidia, AMD, and soon Intel all see what people are willing to pay for video cards. Then you add the manufacturer, distributor, retailer, and scalper "tax" on top of that already sky-high MSRP....... o_O

It's less lucrative than Raptoreum. Monero has a lot of malware miners out there, so you compete with people who steal power and CPU time from others. Not really a winning situation. I expect that eventually there will be RTM-mining malware as well.
