CPU/MB temps

I'm using a P4 550 LGA775 (3.4 GHz) on an ASUS P5AD2 motherboard. After running a graphical stress test I then checked my CPU and MB temperatures in the BIOS.

CPU: 72.5C
MB: 39C

Are these max temps too high, or acceptable?

Edit:

The idle temps are aprox:

CPU: 65-69C
MB: 35-37C

I believe those are normal for pentiums. MB for sure is fine, and I think that is ok for a P4

Well I haven't owned an intel since the P3, but if my PC was that hot I'd turn it off immediately and hope it wasn't damaged..

Well... If I go to Intel's thermal website and look up the values for my CPU, I appear to be well in range.

However, I also believe the BIOS reading may be inaccurate. I have never updated the BIOS and apparently there is an issue with ASUS boards giving incorrect readings with some BIOS versions.

SiSoft Sandra seems to think my CPU is running at 126C. Which it clearly isn't or my case would probably be melting. SpeedFan on the other hand seems to think it's running at 55C.

An accurate reading would be great

couldn't get your link to work but your temps seem slightly high. my PresHOTT 3.0 idles at about 38C and under some stress get into mid/upper 40Cs.

edit: mobo temps at idle are abot 29C and max at about 36C under stress on an Intel 915 PBL in an Atec P180

If you are hitting 72c I'd be a bit worried, because thats about where throttling kicks in..if you are in the high 60s that pretty normal, but if you are throttling, you'll take a huge performance hit. I would run throttlewatch. My 550 throttled at stock speeds until I switched the heatsink for a thermaltake jungle 512.
