I have tried unpluging everything except for the ram, cpu, and vid card. same problem.

I just tried running the mobo on cardboard. same problem as before.

Has anyone else had this problem? How'd you fix it?

Thank you

Are you getting any beep codes from the system speaker?

Have you tried reseating your CPU & RAM? Try your DIMM in another socket?

I have tried reseating the cpu. i have tried reseating the ram

Just tried the ram on all the slots. it still won't let me get past the post screen.

it beeps once quickly when the computer turns on, but i thought that was a test beep.

btw what are the beep codes for the kt7? i can't seem to find them in the manual but perhaps i haven't looked hard enough.

Thank you

I am having the same exact problem on my computer, except I am using an Asus A7V mobo instead. Usually after many resets, the computer will eventually boot up into the BIOS. Once I exit the BIOS, my computer will work fine until I power down. If I shut off the power, I get that boot freeze again. I have been having this problem for about 2 weeks now, and I still don't know what it is. I am starting to get fed up with this and almost went out to buy an Abit K7V. I didn't know that Abit users are having the same problem. I went to many online forums, and I found out that there are many other people using Asus A7V and K7V with the same problem. So I guess it isn't an Asus thing. I'm starting to think that it is a VIA chipset thing. If anyone out there has a solution to this problem, there will be many relieved people out there. Does anybody think it has to do RAM?

That sounds like an real problem you have there... The only thing you can do is to remove all the peripherals remove the power cords, remove everything and then pull the motherboard out put it on cardboard and pull the CMOS battery. So it resets itself... I would then suggest just plugging in the ram, CPU, video card. (maybe even try hooking up the 3 1/2 (don't even plug in the keyboard or the hard drive.) Put a boot disk in the drive and see if it starts up. If it still locks up at the post screen I would try using some old stuff you have lying around, or a friends to see if something might be wrong.
One thing that disturbs me is, I think with the new abit motherboards, they should be able to boot to the softmenu without a even a CPU. Check and see if you have one of those boards. If you do you might want to try running the system with just memory and video card in. Only thing you can really do is try to narrow down what could possibly be wrong, and the best way to do that is with another system. Hopefully you don't have a bad motherboard but I have recently heard a few horror stories from ABit shipping damamged goods.
you aren't overclocking your system are you?
