Just got the i5-4690k and I cannot POST.

I made sure everything is plugged in correctly, and all lights and fans turn on. The red cpu led stays on. I reseated the CPU 6 times and have tried using the stock heatsink and the 212 EVO I got. I tried several different cables and have unplugged everything from the motherboard and PSU except for the CPU power cable and 24-pin connector. Still the red led remains on. I can't think of anything left to do.

I have the Asus Z97 Pro wifi ac board with an EVGA 1000w psu that I got for a good deal. I don't know if the 4690k is defective or maybe it's the motherboard.

I'm interested in the outcome here. I have not seen any Haswell Refresh CPUs fail to boot because of incompatibility, so my opinion is that the mobo is DOA or some other problem, but it would be good to know.

OP, do you have another CPU with which to test the board, or another board with which to test the CPU?

Hey crashtech I snagged a Celeron G1820 and was on the phone with Asus support for a few hours. I also replaced the PSU with a Corsair RM850 as well. Asus concluded the BIOS is broken and suggest I RMA.

The 4690k is fine and I'm sure it would have booted up if I had a functioning motherboard after I applied the update.

I'm glad I have the Celeron as the Asus guy suggests I apply the most recent BIOS in Windows and then replace with the 4690k. Asus just released a new BIOS today but is a Windows Installer instead of a traditional CAP file.

The motherboard refuses to successfully flash any BIOS and I lost all capability of powering anything.

Good to see Asus took care of you. Let us know how it goes with the replacement.

I should have the replacement early next week and that should get everything up and running :)

Thanks for the update, I guess we can say that it's inconclusive from what has happened here whether there are any serious compatibility issues with Devil's Canyon CPUs.

Replacement motherboard came today. Everything is working just fine :)

Flashed the bios successfully, and things are looking good. Must have been a dud!
