CPU Kernal Temp

On my Aopen Silentek, there is a temp sensor which is CPU Kernal Temp which is always around the 70C mark.
What is this temperature? what is a safe reading?

I saw an Abit that had a sensor sticking up under the processor, so that it was actually touching the underside of the chip, perhaps this is the same?
