I have an Abit AT7-RAID motherboard with a AMD 2400+ CPU. Its all been working fine until the weekend when it decided not to post. There were no beeps and nothing on screen. The fans were spinning and the LEDs on the board came on.

I had a poke about and reseated the CPU, RAM and did a CMOS discharge.

Now when the machine posts it come up with error "CPU is unworkable or has been changed" then blabs on about checking CPUSOFT menu. I have 2 options F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup.

If I press F1 the machine will boot and play along fine, no problems. But i dont want to have to press F1 everytime I want to boot.

If I press DEL and enter setup even if I dont make any changes the machine will not post next boot. Just blank screen again.

I`m at a loss its driving me crazy. Does anyone know what the CPU settings should be for this chip in this mbd? Please help.

I can do but whatever I change it to causes it to not POST on the next boot :-(

Do you know what the manual settings should be?

HERE'S an AMD cpu chart. It lists your setting settings.

Just a hunch, but check the CMOS battery's voltage. Maybe it's dying and can't hold the BIOS settings?

IMHO, it sounds like your BIOS is partially corrupted. Dunno if you have a bios saver or anything like that, but I'd try and find the newest bios for your mobo and flash it on there.

Thanks for your help guys, I`ve managed to get it sorted now.

Just incase your wondering, and I`ve checked what seems like every post on the internet that has anything relating to this.

Its your clock speed, change it to >=1300 or whatever the largest option is.
