cpu is too hot!!

hi, i built my computer last summer, everything worked fine until yesterday when I randomly open speedfan and notice my temperature was idle at over 60degrees. This is about 15-20 degree higher when i first built my computer, but i havent notice anything wrong with my computer, like random restart etc...Btw my computer spec.

btw, another question if i want to add OCZ Titanium XTC Edition - 2 GB ( 2 x 1 GB ) - DIMM 240-pin - DDR II into my computer, does it work with my old memory?

Well, have you ever cleaned out your case ? Removed dust from the cooler and stuff like that ?

and your memory, it might, but it might not either Why not get another 2 more of those mushkin sticks, and use 2gb total. And I'm not to sure abt this, but it might be that windows XP doesn't even support 3gb's.

okay i opened my case, and did a little bit of cleaning the dust of the fans. And it still having high temperature. Ill probably gonna get a new heatsink today, hopefully it can fix the problem, is arctic cooling freezer 7 pro any good? its around 35CDN around my place.

Yeah, stock cooling + Pentium D 805 + 35C weather = very cozy CPU

ah yeah, ambient temperature probably went up, at least did in my place, and those damn pentium D's run hot as hell. And yes, a ac7 pro is a pretty good cooler for it's price

Unless your mobo supports a work around to enable 4gb, or you have a 64-bit OS, I don't the computer can fully utilize the 4gigs (you might be able to kind of use some of it if you have integrated graphics and can set how much is available for it). Plus the new ram will likely by tuned down in terms of latency and speed to match your current Ram. I agree with MarcVenice: just get some more mushkin- if the stuff u have is doing alright, why not get it again?

I've heard good things about the ac freezer7. I have the a64 freezer pro and it was the best purchase I could have made at the time (last summer as well). I'd actually try some repasting before getting a new heatsink. Get yourself some ceramique paste. There is usually enough in the tube for a few applications. It could lower the temps by 5-10 depending on the TIM on the intel stock.

If your warranty is up on the processor and you feel comfortable (you usually void the warranty by putting on a 3rd-party hsf or OCin anyhow), I'd even suggest lapping the HSF (and maybe event he IHS if it is concave). Just take off the heatsink, clean it off with some alcohol (isopropyl >=70%) and a swiffer (don't use tp or paper towel, you want something lintfree). Then get a clean straight-edge razor and hold it vertical to the surface in question. If you see light coming through, the surface is not flat, and you cold see a temperature decrease if you lapped (the amount depends on how screwed up the hsf and ihs are, but a minimum would be 2-5, and I've hear people lowering 10 when both are concave). There is a good thread on lapping I can direct you too if you decide to go that route.

A. If you had good temps before w/ similar ambients there is no reason to change. Clean and reseat your cooler, possibly a pushpin is not seated properly. If this fails then get the new heatsink.
B. Your board should support 4gig of ram if not more, check your manual. If the manual says yes, then I see no reason not to get the next faster memory, ie; 667 to 800. not necessarily the ram you listed. Match the voltage with your existing and the timings will run at the slower speed. When and if you upgrade your board you will already have a 2 gig kit to go. Note my sig, my board recommends 800 and I'm running ram at more than just one step up. It helps with my OC but you must remain within reach or compatibility of your current ram.
