Intel Pentium4 Retail 2.26 processor. Is this too hot? Intel says 40c is ideal.

I am assuming 41C is idle temps. Thats fine, are you worried b/c you are using not a retail heatsink or something? I'm running a 1.8A OCed to 2.23 with an alpha pal. Idle temps 39-42, under full load/prime 95 temps max 53C but it barely ever hits that high.

Those are perfectly fine temps sep. I assume you're using the heatsink that came with your 2.26 P4?

Yes, it's the retail heatsink and fan. I just snapped on so that worried me if I did something wrong. If I attempt to overclock what temp should I stop or start to look for a replacement? Idile 39c, load at 41c.

Thanks!

40 is a tad bit high...but it's still alright...
if you can get it to around 35c at idle that would be nicer. If in fact during load your cpu temp is above 60c...you should really consider getting a better heatsink and some ASx...
HTH:)

If Intel says it's ideal then why would you doubt them? Mine is a 36C idle and 48C full load running prime95, stock hsf.

Why would you be worried if you are only one degree celcius over what Intel recommends? That is within the margin of error for heatsink manufacturing and thermal paste application... Don't worry about it. You're system is fine. =)
