Not sure if this is normal but one of my computers is maxing out at 100% cpu usage for everything...even on some animated gif adds. All games it hits 100% and stays that way. Is this normal or do i need to upgrade my cpu?

System I'm referring to:

asus a7v133
750 mhz t-bird
512 pc133 sdram
palit Geforce4 ti 4200
win2k

I could get a 1.3 ghz t-bird and drop it into the a7v133...only like 40-50 bucks but i dont want to spend it if that isnt the problem.

Wooot thats a slooooow processor dude! :Q

Anything intense will pretty much max out your cpu, i.e. DC programs, other certain programs, some games etc.

If its 100% busy when sitting idel in windows then something is using that power.

I personally would upgrade your processor if you have the money anyway.

Wouldnt hurt to get yourself twice the processing power ;)

It all depends what apps. Some games are more cpu dependent than GPU dependent so it can go to 100%. It also depends on what GPU you have. In your case, the 4200 will handle most things leaving your cpu as the bottleneck, so in many games, yes your cpu is the bottleneck.

What else makes it go to 100%?

indexing?

And don't spent 50 bucks for 1.3ghz t bird...instead buy a 1700+ if you are going to spend that money and see if there is a bios update to that a 1700+ (my friend has a kt133(a?) paired with a 1700- )
