Cpu is hotter in case!

I was running my computer on my removable motherboard tray on my desk because I didn't have my Antec SX830 case yet. The CPU temp would Idle at 37C. Now that it's in my case it idles at 41C.

Is this normal or did I hit the HSF out of place a bit I moved it into the case. I didn't take it off when I instered the motherboard into the case.

that sounds about right. when it is running with no case, or the case open, then there is fresh, room temp air being drawn directly onto the chip. if it's in the case, b4 that air has reached ur chip. it's probably passed the hard drive, gfx card, ram, and other cards b4 it even gets a glimpse at ur chip. then, once it's passed over the chip, it probably goes round the puter a few times b4 leaving the case, so it will be hotter, and won't take the heat away as well as room temp air.

this should be fine, my D700@936 is normally sits with case temp 27-29C, cpu at idle about 39-41C, and curently when running seti@home, about 55C, and i've only got fan in psu moving air around, and hsf on chip.
