Hey guys im new here so if im breaking any rules please let me know.

So i have a 3570k oc @ 4.2ghz and on cpu z it read that while im idling my clock speed go from 1.6 to 4.2 every two seconds!!!
How can i make it so that it stays more stable at idle???
And more importantly, is it bad for my cpu? :|
Thanks

Not bad for it, no, but you seem to have a program misbehaving and using a lot of CPU cycles. Check task manager to see what's bringing your compy out of idle.

Ok so i went on task manager and the only applications running are msi suite and cpu-z
And my cpu usage is in between 1 and 3%

Any settings on the bios that should or shouldnt be enabled?
Thanks

make sure you have power profile set to balanced not high performance in control panel .

It should idle at 1600mhz and stick there, you may have a background process or some type of software causing it to push into turbo speeds. Try minimizing everything for about 30 seconds and see what that does to the idle speed....it takes a few seconds to "level out" at times.

If it still ping pongs between idle and turbo constantly with everything minimized, you probably have a startup process throwing things out of wack or some type of malware causing issues. Or it may be a normal application running in the background. It definitely should not "ping pong" back and forth non stop, but it usually does take 10-20 seconds to level out after closing everything to run at steady idle speeds.

Hey thanks
I did some things and now it stays at 1.6 for about 5 seconds give or take.
I cleared some start up programms and ran my antivirus but no threats were found.
These are my bios settings: Msi mobo

Enhanced turbo. (Disabled)
XMP. (Enabled)
Spread spectrum (disabled)
Core voltage. (Auto)
Power technology. ( energy efficient)
C1E. (Enabled)
