CPU HSF orientation, can it help GPU cooling?

So for air coolers. Has anyone experimented with the orientation to see if helps keep the GPU cooler under load? For example, it would seem that this orientation would help pull warm air off the PCB (or backplate) thus keeping the card cooler. The CPU temps may suffer a bit, but the GPU is the one that usually demands the best cooling under heavy gaming loads.

Or does it not make a difference compared to the usual orientation?

I'm sure it helps slightly.

In this case it would make more sense to have airflow in the same direction as that exhaust fan, so it helps pull air through.

Well I cropped that pic. It's from xbitlabs. That case has 2 top exhaust fans. They also said it performs better that way, although that was under a CPU load. A GPU load would probably be worse for CPU temps.
